How Khalid got here

I’ve been building for the web since 2019. I started as a freelance designer and developer under my own studio, CodeCanvas, making multilingual, search-friendly websites and writing the copy for them, so clients got something that sounded like them and could be found.

From there the work got bigger. I designed and built the web platform for an international students’ association over more than two years, including the backend, the sign-up and registration flows for a worldwide congress, and a way for volunteers who weren’t developers to work in the code safely. I was the software architect and a full stack engineer on an e-commerce operation in Mauritania with four connected portals: customers, stores, delivery and sales admin. I built mobile apps for food delivery, a car rental system, and a crypto exchange front end.

I studied computer engineering, then finished a postgraduate programme in cloud computing with Caltech in 2024 and completed AWS and Azure training. I also taught full stack development part time, and worked as a senior frontend developer on a subdomain and its documentation for a dental care company.

In 2024 I founded WellPlan, a CRM and follow-up platform for small businesses, under my company KLABS Ventures. In 2025 I joined a programmatic SEO agency as lead frontend developer and, from January 2026, as head of product.

These days almost everything I build is with AI in the loop. Our codebase has passed 416,000 lines and stays stable because I keep context tight, reset when the AI starts guessing, and keep every change saved in history. That’s what I write about as @khalidxah, and what Khalid Builds is for.

My design work is written up as design case studies on Behance.

What Khalid believes about building with AI

  • AI multiplies what you already understand, so understanding the system comes first.
  • Code is the fast part. Decisions about data, failure, scale and security are where the real cost is.
  • Keep an undo. I haven’t typed a Git command by hand in a year or two, because I tell Claude what I want in plain English and it runs them, but every change I make is still saved in history.
  • People rarely quit a business for lack of drive. They quit because nothing holds it together.
